One-hundred-pound Olaf is a big, sweet goofy Great Pyrenees "teenager" brought in to FAAS as a stray. He's smart, affectionate, sometimes barky and underfoot - and right now just a tad orally fixated.
His foster family, who adores him, is working hard to train him not to chew every object, including their hands and faces. Here's what they have to say about sweet, silly, mouthy Olaf:
* "Very smart. He responds to Ollie and has figured out to get in and out of the soft screen leading to our back yard.
* Barks only when we're prepping his food.
* Really curious around the neighborhood so we let him sniff as much as he wants.
* Loves to get his face stroked and leans against us and walks us down the hallway.
* Sweetest thing: As we were getting ready for bed last night - we had his blankets fluffed and ready - he decided he wanted to be on the bed. He didn’t jump, just wiggled his way up. Of course we let him but it is a tight fit for the three of us on a queen.
* Destructive. Chews on our rugs, our sheepskin throws in our dining room chair seats, our throw pillows, and grabs and drags around our ottomans. He's chewed through our bean bag and has started on an armchair. Keeping things out of his reach and monitoring what he's doing is exhausting.
* Mouthy. He grabs our whole hand, wrist, arm, knees or whatever he can reach and puts it in his mouth. Because he’s young, his teeth are sharp and they hurt. If we’re sitting, he tries to bite at our faces. We just get up and turn our backs to him but this is very annoying. Definitely no small children.
* He's a great dog. We understand he’s a puppy and needs work. We're positive that he will get better as time goes by and we want to make sure we can guide him."
Late training is better than never! Many thanks to this caring foster family for volunteering to be Olaf's finishing school. All of our dogs waiting for adoption should be so lucky.
