FAAS Private Adoptions

Sometimes, people have to give up a beloved pet. We know it's not an easy decision.

We believe that the best place for a pet is home. Therefore we are pleased to offer FAAS Private Adoptions, a free listing service for Alameda pet owners looking to avoid surrendering their pet to the animal shelter.

Why use FAAS Private Adoptions?

  • You decide who adopts your pet.
  • Your pet stays in your home until a suitable adopter is found.
  • Shelter space remains available to animals who have no home.

How is FAAS Involved?

FAAS displays available animals on its website and can answer questions about the service. Otherwise, FAAS is not involved. Owners and adopters communicate and meet with each other directly.

How To List A Pet

To use FAAS Private Adoptions to rehome your pet, you must live in the City of Alameda and submit a Private Adoptions Listing Agreement & Application. If accepted, your pet will appear on the FAAS Private Adoptions page for 60 days.

Potential adopters will contact you directly about your pet using the personal contact information you provide.

IMPORTANT: You may not request or accept a fee in exchange for your pet. Doing so will result in your listing being removed.

How To Adopt A Pet

If you are interested in a pet listed on the FAAS Private Adoptions page, please directly contact the owner using the information provided.

Please DO NOT submit a FAAS adoption application. You must contact the owner directly.

FAAS does not evaluate the pets listed on the FAAS Private Adoptions page. Descriptions and photographs are provided by the owner of the pet. FAAS makes no claims as to the health or temperament of these pets and cannot be held liable for any outcomes or damages resulting from a private adoption.

If a lister requests money in exchange for a pet, please notify FAAS immediately at rortiz@alamedaanimalshelter.org or call (510) 337-8565.

Thank you for using the FAAS Private Adoptions listing service!
