A Life Well-Lived for Laughs - And Animals
The Betty White Challenge began in 2021 as an online effort to get fans of the beloved comedy and animal welfare icon to donate $5 to an animal organization of their choice on what would have been her 100th birthday.
Ms. White was known for her enduring love and support for all animals, whether homeless pets, zoo animals, or endangered species in the wild, and often joked that comedy was just a way to support her animal "habit." At one point her fur family included 26 dogs.
Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter welcomes with open arms almost 800 lost and abandoned pets a year, returning and rehoming more than 95%.
